MADUKA OKOYE APPOINTED ENUGU STATE AMBASSADOR AS GOVERNOR MBAH BACKS FOOTBALL ACADEMY PROJECT

In a heartwarming meeting at the Lion Building, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State appointed Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, as an Ambassador of Enugu State, commending the football star for his contributions to sport and his commitment to youth development.
The appointment follows Okoye’s visit to the state where he shared plans to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy in Enugu, an initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing the next generation of football talent, while creating opportunities and hope for young people across the state.
From Global Stage to Local Impact
Describing Maduka Okoye as “a true son of Enugu,” Governor Mbah praised his national and international accomplishments and his desire to give back to his roots.
“With proud sons like Maduka Okoye, Enugu is truly rising. He represents the passion and promise of our youth,” Mbah said.
To support the football academy project, Governor Mbah committed to providing land for its development and further invited Okoye to participate in the next edition of the Enugu International Marathon, which will feature elite runners from around the world.
Inspiring a Generation
As Enugu’s new ambassador, Okoye will serve as a role model to students across the state, especially those in the Smart Green Schools, Governor Mbah’s flagship initiative to modernize learning environments, promote technology, and inspire future-ready education.
The ambassadorial honour also signals the state government’s ongoing strategy to harness the influence of celebrated indigenes to inspire civic engagement, excellence, and grassroots development.
Okoye’s Commitment
Okoye expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his resolve to use his platform to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people in Enugu.
